Phonetic practical gymnastics for young learners
It’s a great idea to enrich the lesson with the phonetic exercises for the young learners. I don`t know anything better than the funny stories and the fairy- tails about Mr. Tongue who lives in its house, that is our mouth.
Please read below an amazing special practical gymnastics for English sounds articulation:
- Where`s Mr. Tongue hiding? Show him, please.
- Ah, here he is! Hello, Mr. Tongue! Let us play a little bit!
- So, listen to my story.
- At night Mr. Tongue sleeps and breathes soundly this way (h, h, h) ( put your hand close to your mouth, breeze and feel the warmth of the air)
- In the morning, he opens eyes and listens to the different sounds around him:
The rain is dropping in the window (d, d, d)
The room clock is ‘saying’ tick-tock (t, t, t)
The water is running from the tap (l, l, l)
- At last, Mr. Tongue sees his mummy and says Hello! He sees his daddy and says Hello!
- He hollows out his back and says (n, n, n)
- Our Mr. Tongue does always keep his house, our mouth, clean and tidy. He washes the ceiling ( we touch the roof of our mouth with our tongue), washes the walls inside the mouth (just now we touch the inner side of our cheeks with our tongue), opens the window ( it`s our lips) and says ( w, w, w)
- He remembers that yesterday in the evening he ate some jam and forgot to wash the upper lip. Just now, he tries to lick jam from the upper lip with the tip of the tongue.
It takes nearly 3-5 minutes to practice English phonetics with lots of joy and engagement. The young learners get understanding of how the English language differs from their mother tongue and deeply feel this difference, get lots of practice in the right pronunciation of English sounds and have a lot of fun while practicing.
